Advocacy is a way of supporting and empowering people to ensure that they have their voice heard and their wishes made known to others. Advocacy is also about ensuring all people are treated fairly as citizens and have equal rights within all aspects of their lives.
Who do we support?
People in South Worcestershire who have:
- learning disabilities
- mental ill health
- physical disabilities
- physical ill health
- sensory disabilities
- carers
- needs relating to old age
who may be:
- isolated or excluded
- denied services
- lacking opportunities
- denied choice
- unaware of rights
- unable to speak up without support
How does this work in practice?
Advocates work in a variety of ways depending on the needs of the person they are supporting by:
- obtaining information
- making people aware of their rights and responsibilities
- helping people identify their options
- supporting people to make complaints
- supporting people to become more included in their community
- supporting people on either a long or short-term basis
