Advocates are ordinary people of all ages and backgrounds who
give their time to support people with ill health or disability
to ensure their voices are heard and their rights upheld. Advocates
are independent and are not involved as professionals, carers
or family members.
Advocates do not need formal qualifications but do need some essential
qualities. They need to be:
• good listeners and open to the views of others
• non-judgemental
• discreet, positive and tolerant
• interested in people
Advocates receive free initial and ongoing training as well as
continued support and encouragement from the team and fellow advocates.
We are always looking for volunteer advocates so if you would
like more information, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
