Volunteering

The involvement and commitment of volunteers is vital to the support we are able to offer to those using our services.  They contribute enormously to our work and enable us to reach out and support many more people.  Our volunteers come from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, contributing varied work and life experiences.

Thank you again for all the help and support. I know you all work very hard to ensure all volunteers get the right support and pairings, and I’ve always known how and where to get it if necessary.

Thank you for the volunteer training course which I much enjoyed. As well as learning a lot it gave my morale a welcome boost as I seek my next job.

I feel more confident to talk to a wide range of people and to be able to listen and communicate with them, I also have more confidence in my own judgment of situations.

The training was of a very high standard, well organised and presented and enjoyable. I’m now looking forward to starting!

Volunteers don’t require formal qualifications but do need to have some important qualities. They need to be:

  • good listeners
  • Interested in people
  • open and non-judgemental
  • committed to rights and equality
  • respectful towards the views of others
  • good listeners
  • calm and patient

Volunteers receive free initial and on-going training with the option of achieving qualifications through the Open College Network. We support our volunteers through reviews, meetings, social events and newsletters.

We have a range of opportunities for volunteers, such as being a mentor or an advocate, or helping with fundraising and general administration.

Along with 1 to 1 work we have several volunteer opportunities available with working to support our groups these include:

  • Gardening
  • Art
  • Coffee Mornings
  • Walking
