LifeLinks
LifeLinks encourages and supports community involvement for people who may face barriers to participation. The project provides support to enable people to become actively involved in mainstream leisure, social, educational and volunteering opportunities.
The LifeLinks get-togethers give me something to look forward to.
LifeLinks has enabled me to meet up with other people, giving me a much-needed break from my caring responsibilities.
I feel much more confident now and am now happy to chat with other people.
LifeLinks currently works with people who have:
- mild/moderate learning difficulties
- mental ill health
- are over 50 years
- Autism and Aspergers syndrome
LifeLinks provides one to one person centred support to enable individuals to develop skills, build confidence and pursue their interests
Project users are also supported to participate in community based Peer Networks. These are facilitated by LifeLinks and provide opportunities for people to develop social links and friendships and share common interests. In this way participants broaden their networks and support one another to become involved in activities within their communities. This can ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and also strengthen active communities.
Examples include a group of project users who have experienced mental ill health who meet to share their common interest in performing music. The support of the group has enabled some members to develop the confidence to go out and perform in mainstream environments. My Space MESSworcs
