Moving On
...Volunteering works
We have recently been awarded a strategic grant by Worcestershire County Council to deliver mental health reablement services. This work aims to provide essential assistance for vulnerable people with mental ill health who are in need of support to recover from their illness.
In our experience, people with, or recovering from, mental ill health become caught in a cycle of illness, isolation, loss of self esteem, social isolation leading to recurring illness. It can be difficult for people to break out of this cycle and take the first important steps to recovery. Reablement services offer opportunities to take this first step by supporting people to re-engage with their communities and, in addition, providing an environment that acknowledges the barriers that people may face.
The project’s focus is to work with people who have experienced mental ill health, using their interests, skills and experience to get involved in volunteering. We work with people to identify their interests and potential volunteering options, support them through the application process and then provide a tailored level of support to help them take up any opportunities.
Through the course of the project we hope that organisations in the voluntary, statutory and business sectors will gain an increased understanding of mental ill health and how they can improve support for, and access to, volunteering or employment.
